ETON MESS: A BRIEF (POSSIBLY PHONY) HISTORY
Eton mess is a traditional English dessert consisting of broken meringues, fruit (generally strawberries) and cream.
Legend has it that the first Eton Mess was created when a very excited Labrador knocked a pavlova out of a cooks hands at Eton College after a sporting event (it’s England, so… let’s say cricket). Rather than waste the food, the cook scooped it up and served it in individual bowls.
This is gross, and not how we prepare ours (we do have a lovely Labrador mix but he won’t help with the preparation of your food).
We’ve also added ice cream (because why wouldn’t you?) and make it in flavor combinations that would make a 1920’s Eton pavlova cook blush.
Eton mess is also (according to one potentially dubious website) the Queen’s of Englands favorite dessert.
So that’s a pretty good endorsement, and must be true because it was on the internet.
